You’ll have to take a written test for you to be able to get your learner’s permit. You might also want to consider taking a driver’s ed course. This isn’t necessary to take before you get your learner’s permit, but you will have to take it before getting your provisional license, and it can be beneficial for passing your written exam. You can take this course as early as 15 years old.

Your Provisional License

To get your provisional license, you will need to complete at least 60 hours of driving with your learner’s permit, and 10 of these hours will need to be at night. The MVA also recommends spending some time driving in bad weather, though this is not necessary to pass your test. Remember to keep a log tracking your hours spent practicing.

You need to spend nine months practicing driving with your learner’s permit. If you get your learner’s permit as soon as possible, the absolute earliest you can get your provisional license is at 16 years and six months old. This license allows you to drive unsupervised with some additional rules. Once you turn 18, you will be able to get your full license.
